ONU students have received many emails this March, right?  Along with receiving many emails, the student-l has been discontinued.  Personally, I have been neutral, yet bitter at the fact there is no longer a student-l.  With the student-l, I was able to have all the campus mail organized into one email.  I liked the emails organized that way. Without email organization, I would probably be receiving nearly a dozen advertising emails per day.   When I check my inbox every day, it stresses me out seeing all those emails I have to go through.

For those who may not know, the student-l was sent daily to students during the semester.  The email contained listings of all campus news, advertisements and announcements that were occurring during the week.  Now, with the student-l gone, my inbox is a little less organized.

Not only are students affected, but alumni are as well.  Alumni who still use their ONU email will receive countless emails daily. Friends and alumni I personally know have complained to me about the removal of the student-l.  With their work emails piling up, receiving multiple emails daily adds frustration to alumni.

Looking at the situation differently,  by receiving individual emails students like me no longer have to spend time reading the table of contents and then scrolling through the student-l to find whatever interests them.  Although receiving individuals emails daily is harmless for us college students and alumni, I like my mail organized.

Is there a solution for those who miss the organized student-l?  There actually is.

Google has a feature in their Gmail system that allows mail to be sorted and organized through Google Groups.  Google Groups compiles all messages sent from the student-l. This feature has helped me organize my emails sufficiently.

Google Groups allows students to receive one e-mail with multiple topics instead of receiving individual emails throughout the day, making it easy for email users to keep everything in order.  Below are instructions for setting up Google Groups for email accounts:

Step 1: Go to your Gmail account.  In the top right corner to the left of your picture icon is this icon. Click on it and then click the icon for Groups.

Step 2:  After you click on the Groups button, you will be directed to new page.  Click on “My Groups.”

Step 3:  After clicking on “My Groups,” locate the “ONU Student List” group and click on the drop box menu to the right. Instead of “All email,” select “Digest email.”

This will allow Google to compile the messages received from the “ONU Student List” into one e-mail sent to you towards the end of the day. Hopefully, any ONU student or alumni can use the steps above and sort out their emails.  Email sorting can be easy, if you know how to do it.
