The Spring Intramural season is back. The sports that will be included in this upcoming intramural season are softball, volleyball, and flag football. Flag football and softball will depend on the weather and the amount of interest during sign ups.

Intramural sports are an important part of campus life. There are a number of reasons why students enjoy playing intramurals. They are a relaxing way for many students to have fun and meet new friends. Intramurals also allows people to stay active and be competitive. This encourages many athletes that do not want the time commitment of a school sport to still be able to participate.

Athletic Director Tom Simmons thinks that intramural sports are a very important part of campus life. He also wishes that he had the ability to offer more programing for the intramural athletics. Junior Alex Brown, who played three sports in high school enjoys playing intramural sports because it allows him to stay competitive. He played basketball during winter intramurals and that is his favorite. He also plays flag football and says “he enjoys playing on a team with his fraternity brothers and the feeling of competition.”

The tentative time schedule for the spring intramural season is as follows. Flag football will be on either Monday or Wednesday. Softball will play on Tuesdays and volleyball will play Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays. The actual times for the scheduled games will be provided at a later date after all teams are made up.

Volleyball will consist of three leagues: an A, B, and C. All these leagues are CO-ED and there has to be at least three girls on the court at the same time during play. The A league is highly competitive and are the players with the highest skill level. The B league is still a fairly high level of competition but is just for athletes wanting to play. Lastly, the C league is for anyone who is just wanting to have fun and laugh with friends.
