On April 27, 2024, Ohio Northern University (ONU) unveiled the Durbin-Hileman Softball Stadium. The dedication ceremony, luncheon, and game, attended by nearly 250 donors and fans, celebrated the softball team’s history and the contributions of more than 167 families. The stadium is named in honor of lead donors and alumni Melinda (Durbin) Hileman, who graduated from ONU in 1987, and David Hileman, who graduated in 1986.

The new stadium sports numerous new features, such as customized dugouts, a modern scoreboard, a padded backstop, an upgraded press box, permanent bleachers with backs and bucket seating, lighting, and natural turf. It was designed by architects at Fanning Howey in Celina, Ohio, and constructed by Helms Construction of Findlay.

Following the dedication ceremony, attendees enjoyed a luncheon, hosting the families and alumni who contributed. Speakers, such as the members of the Durbin family, President Melissa Baumann, Board of Trustees Chair Pamela S. Hershberger, and Athletic Director Tom Simmons, expressed gratitude and congratulations to all involved. The Durbin family was also honored by receiving the previous home plate that sat inside the old field, presented by two representatives from the softball team themselves. Additionally, each luncheon attendee received a commemorative ticket to mark the occasion.
Shortly after, the ONU softball team took to the field for a doubleheader against Mount Union. The stadium quickly packed in anticipation to see the new stadium themselves. Softball alumni from all years could be heard clearly in the stands as they cheered and sang, supporting the ONU team.

Despite a valiant effort from the Polar Bears, Mount Union emerged victorious in both games, winning game one 6-1 and winning game two 11-0 in five innings, thus clinching the OAC Regular Season Title for the second consecutive season.
