Sean Swisher, Findlay native, has joined the Ohio Northern Athletics Department as the head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach. Swisher, who played tennis and soccer throughout his lifetime, was welcomed as the head coach in October 2022 after serving a semester as the interim head coach. Prior to working at ONU, Swisher coached tennis at Findlay High School for over a decade.
During his time at Findlay High School, the experienced coach led the tennis program to record wins and multiple appearances in the state quarterfinals. Swisher holds titles from the Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC) composed of ten high schools, including Findlay. TRAC recognized him for his accomplishments, including, but not limited to, receiving the TRAC Coach of the Year title in 2019. Swisher also has experience coaching with the United States Tennis Association.
Tom Simmons, ONU Director of Athletics, said, “Sean has been a great addition to ONU Tennis and the athletic department. He has a passion for our student-athletes education first and then athletic success. That is what we are about at Ohio Northern.”

Although his experience coaching college tennis is different from high school tennis in that there are difficulties working with varying class schedules, Swisher shared that he enjoys the faculty and coaching his teams at ONU. He emphasizes that watching both teams grow during spring competitions has been enjoyable. In addition, Swisher commends the teams’ consistent efforts to improve and support one another.
Swisher, a University of Cincinnati graduate and University of Findlay MBA recipient stated, “I love the mental side of tennis. It is like a chess match, with each player always trying to find a way to exploit their opponent’s weaknesses.”

An avid tennis fan outside of his career, Swisher wishes to complete the Tennis Grand Slam, comprised of the most prestigious individual competitions in tennis – Wimbledon, the Australian Open, and the French Open. The coach, whose biggest inspiration is his family and whose favorite tennis player is Novak Djokovic, has already attended the US Open and just needs to attend three more competitions to fulfill his dream.
