This past Saturday the ONU’s men’s Basketball team went up against Mount Union Raiders for their 2nd home game this season. Despite the loss against the Raiders, the ONU Men’s Basketball team celebrated a historic event. Now with the ease of Covid-19 restrictions, it allowed for people to come support the team and celebrate the 40th year anniversary.

This historic event is honoring the men’s basketball team’s victory against Oklahoma.

During halftime, members of the winning teams were invited on to half court to celebrate their achievements. 2 of the ONU basketball squads from 1979-1980, 1981-1982, were honored for winning the OAC title and playing in the NCAA Tournament and the 3rd squad of 1980-1981 was honored for defeating Oklahoma 72-69.

This was the last time the ONU men’s basketball team won a tournament before moving to division 3. Ever since, Ohio Northern has been building success in that division. Current player Michael Berner stated “winning should be the expectation, not just an outcome.” and that right there is definitely a positive way to get through the season. Both ONU Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams will return to the courts for a double header at Capital this Saturday Dec.18th at 4pm.
