United States of America
Currently in the U.S. state of Oklahoma, around five hundred prisoners have been released in what is said to be the biggest release in U.S. history. All of the inmates were being held for low-level, non-violent crimes. In 2016, Oklahoma residents helped by voting to reduce simple drug possession and minor crimes to misdemeanors.
South Africa
South African towns are taking a major hit due to experiencing the worst drought in known history. Unfortunately, there are areas that have not seen rainfall for up to five years. South Africa is declaring some regions to be disaster areas as a result.
The World
Building off of the event in South Africa, around 11,000 scientists have agreed to announce that the world is facing a climate emergency. Their research is based on the past forty years, and they fear what will happen without major, lasting changes. The scientists do agree progress has been made it some areas, like renewable energy.
