University officials canceled all academic classes for Jan. 30.

The Office of Communications and Marketing sent a campus-wide email late afternoon Jan. 28, announcing that the University was closely monitoring the forecasts. The email stated a formal decision about a delay or closure would be announced no later than Jan. 30 at 6 a.m. Additional information included definitions of “wind chill advisory” and “wind chill warning” from The National Weather Service, wind chill temperature, hypothermia, and frostbite.

The University offered several tips to dress for the cold weather and to prevent frozen water lines in apartments.

Several colleges and universities nearby began to cancel classes early Tuesday morning–some went as far as to cancel Thursday’s classes, too. ONU was one of the final schools in the area to announce a cancellation.

A weather alert was posted on ONU’s website. According to the report, all academic classes, rehearsals and student events were canceled. Administrative offices, the Student Health Center, Heterick Memorial Library, and Taggart Law Library were also closed. The King-Horn Sports Complex, was open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. The natatorium, however, was closed, and varsity sport team practices were optional for students.

University administration continued to monitor the weather conditions to make a determination about Thursday classes.

At 3:58 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, the University sent a campus-wide email, announcing academic classes would resume after noon tomorrow, Jan. 31.

All administrative offices and facilities are to open at their regularly scheduled hours.
