All of the noise surrounding football on campus has been about the college football frenzy, the NFL, or our dear Ohio Northern Polar Bears with two consecutive wins in the conference. Although, what some students might not be aware of is the playoffs of the intramural football league on campus.
The intramural football league this season has been one of many tides and tribulations, but the playoffs have finally rolled around for these unsung heroes the gridiron. With nine teams entering the playoff picture, each team has a chance to win the trophy.
The teams are seeded 1-9, and are matched up with their mirror seed, so for example, a 1 seed will be matched up against a lower seed like an 8 or a 9, and a 3 or a 4 seed will be matched up against a 5 or 6 seed.
With there being an odd amount of teams, the #1 seed will get a first round bye and play the winner of the wild-card game of the 8 vs. 9 seed. This bye round affects the odds due to there being three different possible outcomes of that game, instead of the regular outcomes of games being just one of the two teams winning. The teams go from highest to lowest seed in the following order: Turn Down for Watt, Not Phi Delta Chi, Delta Sigma Phi, The Money Team, The Goon Squad, USDA, Mike Vick in a Box, Victorious Secret, and FIJI.
Each team has a chance at winning the championship, whether the odds be 1/100 or 1/2, each team has a potential shot of hoisting the trophy.
The bracket was released to the teams on Friday night and presented the dates, times and which team was playing which. The “Bracketology” of the tournament, according to the campus intramural website, imleagues.com, was determined on, “winning percentage, head-to-head matchups between teams, sportsmanship, and differential of final scores”. The head of intramurals, John Hetrick, manifested the bracket.
The playoffs are among us, and the crisp fall air is here. The playoffs start this week and extend into next week for the championship. Let the games begin!
