Ohio Northern University’s most recent Kritzler Lectureship in Chemistry was presented by Tom Holme, PhD, on April 9 at 6 p.m. in the Dicke Forum. Holme’s lecture was titled “Understanding the chemical basis of sustainability as a core motivation for learning chemistry,” according to the record of a recent University press release. Attendance was available to the public.
Holme is a Morrill Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Iowa State University whose research focuses on chemistry education, including sustainability and classroom use of artificial intelligence. The Ohio Northern press release reports, “his work has fundamentally shaped how chemistry is taught and assessed nationwide.”
Holme is also the Editor-in-Chief of the academic publication Journal of Chemical Education. The journal, whose aims include “serve[ing] as a means of communication among people across the world who are interested in the teaching and learning of chemistry,” has 22,550 total citations and 4,522,389 article downloads at the time of writing.
Established in 1996, the Kritzler Lectureship in Chemistry exists to “highlight[] fundamental new developments in the science of chemistry and biochemistry.” The Kritzler Lectureship is one of six named lecture series at Ohio Northern, which also encompass the life sciences, pharmacy, engineering, law, and business.
