Ohio Northern University has purchased the building which used to house Ada’s Rite Aid, according to local reporting, online records, and the confirmation of Ohio Northern’s Executive Director of Marketing and Brand Strategy.
The Hardin County Auditor’s Office contains online records confirming Ohio Northern University’s purchase of the following properties in Ada, citing a sale price of $1,800,000:
- 610 S Main includes the physical building which once housed Rite Aid, listing a “Total Parcel Value” of $556,000 (Sale History)
- 608 S Main is Commercial-zoned land adjacent to 610 S Main with paving for a parking lot and a Total Parcel Value of $18,700 (Sale History)
- 624 S Main is similar to 608 S Main, but on the other side of the Rite Aid lot, and with a Total Parcel Value of $18,360 (Sale History)
Executive Director of Marketing and Brand Strategy Dave Kielmeyer confirmed the purchase to Northern Review. His comments are reprinted in their entirety below:
We were pleased to be able to purchase the former Rite Aid building and surrounding property. ONU is interested in both the appearance and uses of properties near University entrances and along our borders. It is the philosophy of our board of trustees to carefully evaluate these types of properties as they become available. While we have begun to explore possible uses, there are currently no plans for the property. We will keep the ONU community updated as planning progresses.
As previously reported by Northern Review, the Rite Aid previously occupying 610 S Main closed last year amidst a wave of other location closures of the convenience store and pharmacy chain.
