As the Heterick Library’s second floor reopened after extensive renovations, a smaller change was made downstairs — the first-floor Northern Lights café transitioned from selling Starbucks beverages to selling coffee from Crimson Cup.
Crimson Cup is a coffee company based in Columbus, OH. They have seven dedicated coffee houses across Ohio, but also provide coffee “for more than 300 coffee businesses across the United States,” including Northern Lights.
Over the course of the Spring semester, Northern Review staff have tried items off the new menu and recorded our impressions. Here are some of our favorite items:
Hot Drinks
Klondike Mocha
If you like coffee taste, definitely. But I prefer the frozen version (Alison Ringhiser)
White Mocha
Sweeter than the Klondike and regular. I like the white chocolate taste (Alison Ringhiser)
Hot Chocolate
Better than starbucks, and a really good temperature. (Alison Ringhiser)
Iced Drinks
Klondike Mocha
I was shocked at how good this drink was. Perfect for a long study night in the library. (Gabe Mott)
Mocha
The chocolate flavor might be strong for some (definitely more than its comparable Starbucks beverage), but this is still a great iced coffee to help you get through homework. (Gabe Mott)
White Mocha
A bit too sweet for me, but great for those who want a sweeter mocha! (Carys Williams)
Latte
Smooth flavor and customizable with whatever syrup you want. Sweet, but not too sweet. (Carys Williams)
Frozen Drinks
Klondike Mocha Freeze
If you like caramel and mocha, I recommend this drink! (Chloe Smith)
Mocha Freeze
SO GOOD. If you like chocolate, 100% get this (Alison Ringhiser)
White Mocha Freeze
Absolutely amazing. Got it with raspberry syrup and they added raspberry whipped cream (which I didn’t even know existed) and it only elevated it. Will definetly be getting this again (Alison Ringhiser)
Hot Chocolate Freeze
If you’re a chocolate lover, this is the drink for you! (Chloe Smith)
Boba
Strawberry
This smoothie was absolutely delicious! I am a huge smoothie-lover, and I though the flavor and consistency was perfect! My one critique of the smoothie was the cost — it was a high price ($5) for a low quanitity. (Evelyn Megery)
Strawberry Jasmine
A little too tart for me, but could be great for some. Another noteworthy thing: this boba is thicker than the fruit boba, which pops in your mouth (Gabe Mott)
Northern Lights will be open during weekdays this semester, from 7:30AM-4:00PM Mon-Thu and 7:30AM-2:30PM Friday, according to recent email announcements from dining services.
