“Best food in Ada!”

“I’m glad they’re open again!”

“Awesome establishment!”

These are just a few of the 5 star reviews on Google of Ada, Ohio’s family-run Italian restaurant, Viva Maria. The establishment is run by Dominic and Susan Fricano. Dominic started making pizzas when he was 15, which is also when he moved to the United States from Italy. The restaurant used to be in the local armory, but the couple retired for a few years. Since then, they have reopened on Main Street, at 125 South Main Street, Ada, Ohio.

Susan Fricano describes the restaurant’s menu as being, “comfort food.” Recognizing the challenges of academic life, she sees Viva as more than just a dining spot for college students – it’s a safe space for relaxation and socializing. “Sometimes it can get overwhelming being in school. It [Viva] gives college students a place to go to relax and hang out,” Mrs. Fricano commented.

Mrs. Fricano is very personable and develops personal connections with nearly every customer. For newcomers, she eagerly awaits their feedback on the experience. By the end of the night, you’ll find yourself leaving with more than just a satisfied palate. You’ll have gained a new friend in Mrs. Fricano, leaving you wanting to return to Viva again and again.

It wasn’t always the intent for Viva to be established in a college town. For a while they were located in the Lima Mall, and before then, New York. After forming connections and hiring numerous students from Ohio Northern University and the surrounding high schools, however, Mrs. Fricano and the Fricano family have found it a perfect fit. They cannot imagine the restaurant being anywhere else.

Viva Maria specializes in pizza. They offer all kinds: the original hand tossed, pizza by the slice, sicilian (a thicker crust,) and, now, deep dish. They even have calzones and strombolis on the menu. (Tip: the barbecue chicken stromboli is one of the best items on the menu.) Their menu is really diverse as well. They also have wings, chicken tenders, multiple subs, and many different Italian pastas. Tortellini alfredo with chicken is a customer favorite, and their spaghetti and meatballs dinner is especially popular too.

“We’re really happy to be back in Ada,” Mrs. Fricano said. “We’re really glad to be back open and I’m delighted that we’re so close to really great schools.”
